Biden- But, all kidding aside, the best line of the debate was after it was all over, the announcer, the questioner — who was a good guy, but supported my opponent, who was also a good man — and he said, ‘Sen. Boggs, is there anything else you want to say?’ “Yes, just one thing,” he said. He then took up the microphone. “You know, Joe, if you accepted my commission to the — my appointment to the academy, you’d still have one year and three months of active duty, and I’d have no problems right now,” he said.
The United States participated in the Vietnam War throughout the 1960s. Therefore, if Biden had been a member of the school, he would have served. On the other hand, Biden, on the other hand, was granted five student draft deferments while attending the University of Delaware and the Syracuse University College of Law.
Joe Biden was deemed ineligible for military duty in 1968 due to childhood asthma.
One internet commenter remarked that the Navy, even back in the dark days of 1965, had better wisdom than to accept someone of Biden’s dubious reputation into their institution.
