‘DEAFENING SILENCE’: DeSantis, Abbott Won’t Help Jan 6 Prisoners – Report

January 6 reporter Julie Kelly condemned the “deafening silence” from Republican leadership in Florida, Texas, and other conservative strongholds on the January 6 defendants in their states during an appearance on Steve Bannon’s “War Room.”

Kelly, a Senior Contributor for American Greatness, began by noting that 18 House Republicans voted to increase funding for the Department of Justice, despite knowing the funding would explicitly be used to hire lawyers to prosecute January 6 defendants, before turning against Republican governors and attorneys general.

“This is not just a Washington problem,” Kelly charged. “Where are the Republican governors? Where are the Republican attorneys general?”

“You don’t just allow this rogue, corrupt FBI to come into your state, into your community, falsely accuse your constituents of crimes — concocted crimes, or crimes that they’ve weaponized like obstructing an official proceeding — haul them off to D.C. jails and say nothing.”

Kelly then singled out Florida and Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis, who is widely expected to launch a presidential bid later this year.

“Florida has the most criminal defendants for January 6,” Kelly noted. “Florida also has at least three men who have been held under pretrial detention orders for close to two years.”

She pleaded, “Where is the Republican governor? Where is the Republican attorney general?” Then turning to other Republican stronghold states and leaders, including Gov. Greg Abbott in Texas, Kelly continued, “Where is the Republican governor and AG for the State of Texas? Or Indiana? Or Tennessee? Or any of these states?”

“It has been deafening silence,” said Kelly. “Enough already. Marjorie Taylor Greene and a handful of Republicans can’t do all the heavy lifting on every single scandal.”

“When you have this going on, two years later, and you have political leadership in big states doing nothing to protect the rights of their own constituents in the face of this vengeful, reckless, rogue DOJ, it’s time for others to step up besides just the usual suspects in Congress.”
