Rand Paul For Senate Leader? He Just Weighed In On Possibility Of Replacing McConnell.

For many conservative Republicans, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell’s announcement that he would be stepping down from the leadership position evoked little more than a “good riddance.”

Of course, the names commonly mentioned as his potential replacements haven’t exactly sparked a great deal of confidence among right-wing Republicans.

But there’s one name, Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY), that has received a groundswell of grassroots support … and he recently acknowledged the growing demand for him to throw his hat in the ring.

Here’s what TheBlaze reported:

Last month, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky announced that his current term as Senate GOP leader will be his last. While GOP Sens. John Cornyn of Texas and John Thune of South Dakota have both thrown their hats into the ring to succeed McConnell in the role, some people would like Kentucky’s other U.S. senator, Rand Paul, to be the next Senate Republican in the leadership post.

“Thousands of people have been asking if I’d run for Senate leadership…” Paul tweeted.

In addition to the overwhelming support reflected in his social media poll, a number of high-profile figures also expressed their desire to see him take McConnell’s place in the Senate.

Paul, whose voting record is conservative with a libertarian streak, has gained attention in recent years for holding Dr. Anthony Fauci and others accountable for their statements about COVID-19. His stance on fiscal matters has also attracted praise from the right.

A U.S. Senate candidate in Utah recently made the case for Republicans to select Paul as the next GOP leader, as reported by Newsmax:

A Utah mayor seeking the state’s GOP nomination to replace Mitt Romney in the U.S. Senate has endorsed Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., to replace Sen. Mitch McConnell as the upper chamber’s top Republican.

Trent Staggs, who since 2017 has been the mayor of Riverton, Utah, located about 20 miles south of Salt Lake City, said in a statement to Newsmax that Paul is a lawmaker who understands “federalism” and “America First.”

“The prospect of Rand Paul leading Republicans in the Senate should excite every liberty lover in America,” Staggs said. “The uniparty has done so much damage to our country, and it’s time to reverse that. We need someone who understands federalism, someone who is America First, someone who understands we must solve our problems at home rather than nation-building. We need Rand Paul.”
