Pete Hegseth’s FBI background report ‘unremarkable’ as confirmation hearings set to begin
As the Senate approaches confirmation hearings for the incoming Trump cabinet, it has been reported that the FBI background check on Pete Hegseth, nominee for Secretary of Defense, is “unremarkable.”
Punchbowl News reported that Republicans who have “been briefed say that the report is unremarkable.” The hearing for Hegseth to appear before the Armed Services Committee is set for Tuesday at 9:30 am. The same day, Trump’s nominee for Secretary of Veterans Affairs and Secretary of Interior, Doug Collins and former North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum respectively, will also appear before committees.

Hegseth has been one of the nominees who Democrats and legacy media outlets have targeted as Trump’s inauguration has drawn closer. The onslaught against Hegseth began with attacks on his Christian faith, pointing to a tattoo on his bicep that says “Deus Vult,” which in Latin means “God wills it.” The Associated Press associated Hegseth with white supremacy due to the tattoo in their report.

Hegseth hit back at the outlet and others in November, and said, “This type of targeting of Christians, conservatives, patriots and everyday Americans will stop on DAY ONE at DJT’s DoD.” Sexual assault allegations against Hegseth were also dug up in a case in which he was never charged with a crime in 2017. The police report on the allegations were made public, but were dismissed by Trump as well as Hegseth who maintains that the interaction was consensual.
Other allegations against Hegseth were that he drank too much on the job, but he as well as coworkers at Fox News have dismissed the drinking allegations.
