Melania Trump Gets Glowing Reviews For ‘Elegant’ Pre-Inauguration Look

Rave reviews are rolling in for Melania Trump’s pre-inauguration outfit, which she showed off while greeting the Bidens on Monday.

The former fashion model achieved an “elegant” look as she wished President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden a bon voyage as they left the White House for the last time. Their day began at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Washington, D.C., where Melania appeared in a head-to-toe navy blue ensemble, complete with a full-brim hat and gloves to keep her hands warm in the crisp winter morning air.

The ensemble is the product of designer Adam Lippes, whose coats range in price from $2,500 to over $5,000. Online, others took note of Melania’s navy Manolo Blahnik heels that perfectly matched her coat and hat, the latter of which came with a white wrap. The hat is the product of American designer Eric Javits.

In addition to her clothing, Melania had her flowing hair wrapped in a stately bun, and her ears were adorned with modest diamond studs.

The choice of American designers is a change of pace for the incoming first lady, who typically reveres European fashion icons such as Alexander McQueen and Valentino. Those choices were on display during last night’s festivities, where Melania was seen wearing a black sequin Carolina Herrera skirt paired with a Saint Laurent cape coat and a Dolce & Gabbana blouse, the Daily Mail reports.

Melania’s Inauguration Day outfit is similar to the one she wore in 2017 for Trump’s first swearing-in. Then, she strutted through the ceremonies in a pale blue cashmere dress by Ralph Lauren paired with matching gloves. Her accompanying high heels were the same shade as the pair on display Monday.

It’s become an understated trend for first ladies to wear American designers on the first day of a new president’s term. In 2021, Jill Biden wore a dark blue tweed dress made by New York brand Markarian as she watched her husband take the oath of office. In 2013, Michelle Obama watched her husband be sworn in for the second time while wearing a checkered navy blue coat by New York designer Thom Browne.

President-elect Donald Trump and Melania will be joined by their son Barron at the Capitol Rotunda for the remainder of the morning. Inside, the 47th president will swear his oath of office while surrounded mostly by lawmakers and top aides, just a select few who will be able to view the slimmed-down swearing-in since it was announced on Friday that the ceremony would take place indoors.
