Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis’ alleged scandalous relationship with her top prosecutor is now one step closer to being exposed. A Georgia judge has unsealed the divorce case of Nathan Wade, the special prosecutor in the Donald Trump election interference case. The latest development comes amid allegations of an improper relationship between Willis and Wade.

The scandal started to unravel when Trump aide Mike Roman’s defense attorney, Ashleigh Merchant, pointed fingers at Willis, claiming there was an “improper” connection with Wade.

The accusations started to come to light just as the legal of Joycelyn Wade, who is Nathan Wade’s soon-to-be ex-wife, was trying to get Willis involved in their divorce proceedings through a subpoena. Superior Court Judge Henry Thompson stated that he has not yet decided if Willis is required to testify in the divorce case between Nathan Wade and his estranged wife, Joycelyn Wade. Thompson’s decision will follow after the deposition of Nathan Wade on Tuesday.

On Monday, the judge in the divorce case ordering a stay on Willis explained, “Only after I hear what Mr. Wade has to say do I think I can make a determination about whether [Willis] has any unique knowledge about these issues.”

The situation escalated when a motion containing Wade’s credit card statement revealed purchases of airline flights for himself and Willis to various destinations, including Aruba, between 2022 and 2023. Andrea Hastings, representing Joycelyn Wade, has argued that Willis had crucial information regarding the cause of the separation and accused her of trying to use her position to avoid deposition.

During this time, Wade enjoyed a lavish lifestyle, spending tens of thousands of dollars per month on extravagant trips and experiences. He also failed to comply with his discovery obligations in the divorce case, leading to contempt of court orders.

Wade’s credit card statements show that he had taken numerous trips unrelated to his work with the Fulton County District Attorney’s office. These trips include destinations like San Francisco, Napa Valley, Florida, Caribbean cruises, Belize, Panama, and even Australia.

Willis previously cited the “irretrievably broken with no reasonable hope of reconciliation” provision in her divorce pleadings to argue against inquiries into Nathan Wade’s infidelity. Willis’ attorney, Cinque Axam, argued that her testimony in the divorce is irrelevant, as the divorce is a “no-fault” case and adultery allegations are not pertinent.

However, Hastings countered, insisting on Willis’ deposition to clarify financial matters and the nature of her relationship with Nathan Wade.

The controversy has significant implications, not just for those involved but also for the high-profile election interference case against former President Donald Trump. The judge overseeing the election interference case has scheduled an evidentiary hearing on these allegations for next month, with the DA’s office required to respond in court by February 2.

The investigation primarily focuses on Trump’s actions and communications regarding the 2020 presidential election results in Georgia. Willis’ investigation includes potential charges of election fraud, making false statements to state and local governmental bodies, conspiracy, oath of office violations, racketeering, and any involvement in violence or threats related to the election’s administration.
