JD Vance’s Adorable Kids Steal The Show On Inauguration Day

Vice President J.D. Vance is eager to show the world what being a young father is all about, and his three children didn’t disappoint while appearing adorable for the cameras on Monday.

Sitting with the vice president and Second Lady Usha Vance were Ewan, 7, Vivek, 4, and Mirabel, 3, all of whom waited patiently while the inaugural parade kicked off. Thousands of lucky participants waited hours to secure coveted seats in the venue, which housed just one of the three presidential balls in President-elect Donald Trump’s honor.

Seated above the crowd, Vice President Vance looked on with smiles while tending to Mirabel, who sat on his lap, sucking her thumb and showing off three bandaged fingers.

Vivek and Ewan, meanwhile, played the part of miniature politicians in their blue suits and red ties, flanking their mother and watching with mild interest as the brass band played for military members at the inaugural parade.

All looked to be up past their bedtimes. Ewan gingerly rubbed his eyes with his fist, the universal sign of childhood sleepiness.

During the campaign, Vice President Vance didn’t shy away from introducing his children to his social media followers. For Christmas, he and Mirabel teamed up to bake her grandmother’s famous biscuit recipe, a heartwarming moment that snatched up thousands of views as fans flocked to celebrate the return of a young father to the White House.

At just 40 years old, Vance will be the first millennial vice president and among the youngest in history. He and Usha met while both attended Yale Law School, and they married in 2014. Four years later, their oldest, Ewan, was born.

The last set of young children to grace the White House were Malia and Sasha Obama, who were just 8 and 10 years old when their father moved the family into the White House in 2009. Like the Bush daughters before them, they grew up in the harsh spotlight of the American political press despite their parents’ best efforts to shield them.

Now, the Vances will face that same challenge. Whereas Vice President Vance has been an open book, literally writing about his hardscrabble upbringing in his famed memoir “Hillbilly Elegy,” Usha has been more reserved, saying last year that her childhood was very different from that of her husband.

“My background is very different from JD’s. I grew up in San Diego, in a middle-class community with two loving parents, both immigrants from India, and a wonderful sister,” she said at the Republican National Convention. “That JD and I could meet at all, let alone fall in love and marry, is a testament to this great country.”
