Schumer Bars GOP Senator-Elect From Orientation As Opponent Refuses To Concede

Share

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) is refusing to allow Senator-elect Dave McCormick (R-PA) to attend Senate orientation for new members next week. McCormick’s opponent, three-term Senator Bob Casey (D-PA), has refused to concede while Democrat election lawyers are attempting to overturn the results of the election.

According to several Republican senators, Schumer is claiming that McCormick cannot be allowed to attend since his opponent has yet to concede. Even though the race has long been called in McCormick’s favor by the Associated Press and a number of additional outlets, Casey and notorious Clinton lawyer Marc Elias are claiming that provisional ballots have yet to be counted.

Provisional ballots that have been counted have not favored Casey’s chances, as the incumbent would need to carry them by an astronomical margin in order to win.

While Schumer is attempting to prevent McCormick from attending, he is not doing the same for Senator-elect Ruben Gallego (D-AZ). While the race has been called for Gallego by a number of media outlets, Republican challenger Kari Lake has yet to concede.

Schumer’s decision was met with anger from a number of Senate Republicans.

“Schumer is not allowing @DaveMcCormickPA to participate in Senate orientation this week because Casey refuses to concede the race. What happened to all the demands that our leaders accept the outcome of the elections?” Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) wrote in an X post.

Florida’s other Senator agreed, as leadership candidate Rick Scott called on soon-to-be minority leader Schumer to let McCormick attend. “Dave McCormick is the senator-elect & @SenSchumer’s move to not allow him to participate in orientation this week is disgusting. They did the same thing to me after I beat a Democrat in 2018. We have to fight this!” Scott wrote in an X post of his own. “AP called it. Dave won, Casey must concede NOW.”

Senator Mike Lee (R-UT) announced that he will be defying Schumer’s decree by inviting McCormick to the orientation. I’m willing to personally escort @DaveMcCormickPA into the Capitol for new-senator orientation,” Lee wrote. “I’d like to see how they’d keep him out if he literally walked into “the room where it happens.”
