Trump Announces Plans To Reveal VP Pick

The Trump re-election campaign announced plans for an event where the former president’s long-awaited pick for vice president could be revealed.

A flyer released by the Trump Campaign invites supporters to attend a “Freedom First Event” at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee. The July 18 event will be headlined by the “nominee for vice president, as well as former President Trump.

The event is being billed as a high-profile fundraiser, table prices going for donations between $200,000 and $300,000. Photo opportunities are also going for $100,000, while a $5,000 donation buys a ticket to the reception.

Former President Trump has long cultivated speculation surrounding the selection of his running mate. The presidential frontrunner has long hinted that the decision will be made at the Republican National Convention, though he did note that the candidate was in Atlanta for last week’s presidential debate.

A number of candidates on the campaign’s shortlist were in the post-debate spin room, including Senator Tim Scott (R-SC), North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum, Senator JD Vance (R-OH), Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL), U.S. Rep. Byron Donalds, U.S. Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-NY), businessman Vivek Ramaswamy and Dr. Ben Carson.

Last month, ABC News reported that seven candidates had received documents from the Trump Campaign and were in the early stages of a vetting process.

Trump insiders have long cautioned that the former president is still considering a number of “dark horse” names, including Ramaswamy and Arkansas Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders, among others.

“Trump is looking for three things,” one Trump Campaign insider recently told the New York Post. “He’s looking for who can raise money, he’s looking for who is an effective surrogate on TV with adversarial media, and he’s looking at who will do the best job debating Kamala Harris.”
