Myrtle Brown, mother of former NFL player Sergio Brown, was found dead.

The mother and son were reported missing on Saturday, September 14th.

Family members failed to make contact with them since Friday.

Myrtle Brown was found in a creek near the house they shared.

Family members of Sergio Brown and his mother, Myrtle, contacted authorities on Saturday to say they couldn’t find or make contact with either person, Maywood police said. A missing persons search was started and 73-year-old Myrtle Brown was found dead in a creek near her home, according to FOX 59.

Sergio Brown played college football for Notre Dame.

The New England Patriots signed Brown as an undrafted rookie in 2010.

He bounced around the league playing for three other teams before retiring.

After his playing career ended, Brown lived with his mother outside of Chicago.

The police are investigating this as a homicide.

The medical examiner said Myrtle suffered many injuries that resulted in her death.

They are continuing to investigate the murder of Myrtle Brown while still looking for Sergio.

Police haven’t not named a suspect, but CBS News has been in contact with a neighbor Carlos Cortez.

Cortez talked with CBS News and discussed what the police recovered from his Ring Doorbell camera.

Here is what CBS News is reporting.

“They seen him taking out the trash, and they seen him have a bonfire where he burned all her clothes,” he (Cortez) said.

What was captured on camera is similar to what Cortez says he learned from family.

“They said he wasn’t himself the last few months. He was out of his mind,” Cortez said.

He adds while police have been called to the home before, he hopes Saturday was the final time he’ll see police lights and crime scene tape.

The Maywood community will hopefully get a fast resolution to this terrible case.
