President Trump Surprises Everyone With “Shortlist VP Candidate” No One Expected

While on a visit to the border in Texas, President Trump admits the Texas Governor, Greg Abbott, is on the shortlist for Vice Presidential candidates.

Of all the names often mentioned, this is not a common one and it took many by surprise.

Governor Abbott was recently seen highlighting the major differences between President Trump and Biden during the border visit. He openly praised President Trump, while digging into the downfalls of Biden in office.

This led to many people shouting their praises of Abbott on Twitter about his

The Texas Tribune adds more about President Trump’s comments:

During a joint interview with Abbott on Fox News, the former president was asked by host Sean Hannity whether Abbott was under consideration for the position. Trump responded that Abbott is “a spectacular man” and he was honored when Abbott endorsed him for president last year.

“And he’s done a great job,” Trump said. “Yeah, certainly he would be somebody that I would very much consider.”

“So he’s on the list?” Hannity said.

“Absolutely, he is,” Trump replied, as Abbott looked on.

This may come as a shock to many people as Abbott did not always embrace President Trump when compared to other statewide officials like Lt. Governor Dan Patrick.

Despite President Trump admitting he is on the shortlist, Abbott did have some comments regarding the Vice Presidency position – CBS News has more on his comments:

After the event, Abbott told CBS News Texas’ Jack Fink that his focus is on Texas, saying he could have run for a national office; however, he did not want to.

“I’ve already thought about running for reelection again and I can tell you from the people talking to me here today, taking pictures with me today, same thing I hear every day, Governor please stay in Texas, please run again,” Abbott said. “That’s what I hear every day from my fellow Texans and that’s what I intend to do.”

Many have flocked to X to voice their opinions with Abbott as a Vice Presidential pick:

While Abbott is certainly on the shortlist, there are a few others that President Trump has mentioned for the Vice President role.

The Hill has more on the list:

Fox host Laura Ingraham asked Trump during a recent town hall event if Scott, entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R), Rep. Byron Donalds (R-Fla.), South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem (R) and former Hawaii Rep. Tulsi Gabbard, who served in Congress as a Democrat but has since shifted to more conservative views, were on his list. Trump confirmed all of them were, though it’s unlikely he would select DeSantis, as the former president aggressively attacked the Florida governor during his own 2024 bid.

Others believed to be in the running for the post include Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-N.Y.), Sen. JD Vance (R-Ohio) and Arkansas Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders (R), as well as Sen. Katie Britt (R-Ala.), who will deliver the GOP response to President Biden’s State of the Union address next week.
